TikTok Through the Diffusion Theory

The first innovation that I thought of when reading about the Diffusion Theory was TikTok. It caught on and spread because it was a new social media outlet, that was a similar concept to Vine, which everyone, at the time, missed so dearly. Many people became early adopters because they were either curious, bored, or saw it as an opportunity to become famous and gain a following before everyone joined the app. Many people succeeded in doing that too! People became late adopters because they felt the app was childish or that they didn't need another social media platform. They did not want to conform to society and join another app that would take up their time. Those are the same reasons why many people still have not joined. There are some negative consequences of this technology. I personally blame TikTok for the rise of cancel culture. While it, of course, existed before TikTok, cancel culture really become way too common as a result of how quickly people gained fame on the app. I do believe that the positive outweighs the negative. I enjoy being on the app because it brings the entire world together. With the way the algorithm is, anyone can blow up on the app. You don't need millions of followers for your content to go viral, and I think it's a really cool opportunity for creators to get their content out into the world and be noticed. I also enjoy the app for a good laugh and think it's a great way to see what's happening in our world and make it a little smaller.
